Job Opening: Public Affairs Specialist

6 Mile Runs seeks a Public Affairs Specialist to join our team. This individual will interact with and engage content viewers through various social media platforms. The Public Affairs Specialist works on a team to facilitate customer conversation and engagement through social media channels.

This position requires a journalism background, including high-level writing and editing skills, expert knowledge of AP style, experience, proficiency in using content management systems, and proficiency in Photoshop. Must be able to work under deadline pressure.

This position is a salaried, full-time position that may require the employee to be on-call on nights and weekends and on holidays throughout the year after regular duty hours on a rotating, scheduled basis.

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing social media plans for a company or agency
  • Undergraduate and/or Masters’ degree in communications, journalism, digital media, marketing, social media or related field
  • Thorough knowledge of the social media ecosystem and a track record of success in the hands-on execution of social media programs
  • Knowledge of sound communications and mass media tactics and techniques;
  • Solid understanding of social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, or other emerging technology, blogging, podcasting, and others;
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at many levels
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Good intuition and judgment
  • Multi-disciplined – must integrate well into marketing initiatives outside of social media
  • Ability to perform well under deadline pressure; ability to set and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Authorization to work for any U.S. employer; candidate must be able to pass public trust security background screening.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and post article and social media content and graphics;
  • Perform social media content inventories and content assessments;
  • Create and maintain content within all social media policies and style guides’;
  • Provide advice regarding Social Media tools, techniques, and applicability, including brainstorming, serving as a subject matter expert on design and visual media, and providing counsel and input on the illustration and execution of graphics concepts and tactics;
  • Integrate social media tactics into comprehensive communications programs and plans that may include internet, radio, television, photo, and print;
  • Develop social media strategies for social media accounts that include posts, Tweets, blog posts, photos, shortened links, and video content for YouTube;
  • Create analytic reports that provide social media data and statistics;
  • Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all social entities;
  • Perform daily quality control checks, review published items for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and style, and comply with quality assurance guidelines; and,
  • Organize and track project requirements and timelines.
