Job Opening: Web Designer

6 Mile Runs seeks a Web Designer to join our team. The Web Designer must utilize strong visual/graphic design skills and have an expert understanding of cutting-edge Web technologies and front-end programming languages. The Web Designer will create new ideas through innovative approaches to design and coding.

This position requires a proficient level of experience coding and developing with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and a strong understanding of the Bootstrap framework. In addition, the designer must have a firm graphic design foundation and the experience to adapt and develop in a responsive framework.

This is a salaried, full-time position that may require the employee to be on-call on nights and weekends and on holidays throughout the year after regular duty hours on a rotating, scheduled basis.

Basic Requirements:

  • 6+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience with a wide array of design and technical skills in graphic and Web design and development;
  • Any combination of education and training/experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described. A typical qualifying background includes a bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or master’s degree in graphic, Web design, digital media, or related field.
  • Expert knowledge of web standards and technologies, including but not limited to HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, web browser optimization, responsive design, mobile design and Section 508 compliance;
  • Demonstrated ability in using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.);
  • Ability to design templates and modules using Bootstrap, working with back-end developers;
  • Proficiency in core graphic design principles (type, color, layout, composition, motion graphics) with the confidence to bend design rules when necessary;
  • Demonstrated experience working with and coding in both content management systems and Adobe Dreamweaver;
  • Proficiency in modifying and coding JavaScript and JQuery;
  • A portfolio that showcases a breadth of design work and showcases understanding of all techniques and fundamentals;
  • Willingness to demonstrate flexibility as needed to meet mission requirements; and,
  • Authorization to work for any U.S. employer; candidate must be able to pass public trust security background screening.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain website look, layout, and feel;
  • Provide design and Web development support;
  • Assist with website maintenance, additions, and improvements;
  • Track and prioritize site development projects;
  • Strong understanding of Section 508 accessibility guidelines website implementation.
  • Recommend and work with responsive Web templates, Bootstrap modules, and other standard Web technologies to design, maintain and update apps, widgets, and other solutions for online content delivery;
  • Utilize graphic design principles (type, color, layout, composition, motion graphics) and provide point of view on projects; and,
  • Organize and track project requirements and timelines.
